1980 marked the 25th year of St. Albert’s Church and several events were planned including a huge festival and a special luncheon. The students decorated the school, gym, and even some parts of the church with “St. Albert the Great 25th Anniversary” signs and posters.
St. Albert’s printed out a small 34 page booklet for the event which showed pictures of St. Albert’s history. The books were printed on yellow (which is why the quality of the scans below is not better) 8.5″ x 11″ paper, folded in half, and used two staples to act as a binder. The small books were first handed out during a special mass held right before the luncheon and were also available at the festival and throughout the year. While these books were very simple, many of the little friends who visited the events of that year saw many historical pictures of St. Albert’s for the first time through these simple little books.
St. Albert’s really did go out of their way to make sure anyone who wanted an anniversary booklet was able to receive one. You can view the contents of the pages of the booklet (and also the chronicle for that week which tells people where and how to get their booklet) below.
At the time of the 25th Anniversary Festival, Father Fauser was the pastor as Msgr. Weier had left two years earlier to become pastor of St. Joseph Parish in Wyandotte. The mass before the luncheon had important dignitaries from the Detroit Archdiocese attend and also the Knights of Columbus joined in the procession making the mass that much more special. After the mass, the parishioners took photographs outside the church to commemorate the event and why not, it was a perfect day for this.
Eventually the crowd moved toward the gymnasium entrance and waited for the luncheon doors to open. Once they did, they were greeted by Sister Lucina who directed the congregation into the gymnasium for the somewhat formal event. Photo’s from this mass and luncheon are shown below.
