Not all of the stories in the Legendary Story category that have something to do with the “little friends” end with something getting broken. Here is a story with a happy ending that took place in 1979 that included 4 members of the class of ’75.
Eileen O, Janet M, Kathy S, and Anita Z went to Kyoto Steak house to wish Anita Z well as she joined the military (we are unsure of what branch). At this Dearborn restaurant there were tables of eight; so they put the four little friends at a table with two other “older couples” with whom they would share the table.
As they were enjoying their time together, the little friends explained to the other couples that they were there to send Anita off on her military career.
As the meal came to an end the waiter arrived with the checks and it turned out that one of the men from the other couples at the table had paid their tab on his credit card! The girls were completely astonished that this happened and wanted to thank them.
Unfortunately, the two couples had already left and the girls had no way to contact them to say thanks, so they asked the waitress if they could see the name on the credit card as they explained to the waitress what had just happened. If they knew the name of the people who paid for their meal, they could look them up in the phone book and send a thank you.
The waitress gave them the name, and they did find the address and sent a thank you to them. A very happy tale and a wonderful send off for Anita who would go on to pursue her career in the United States Military. There have been several other little friends who have joined the military such as Mike G (Army), Chuck K (Army), Bob K (Air Force), and Pat U (Marines). Several have had similar send offs by the little friends (in one form or another) before leaving for the Armed Forces. One such farewell was a dinner at Greek Town in downtown Detroit while another was a surprise party at a lake at a state park. You just never really know when it comes to farewell parties with the little friends. Fortunately they all returned safely home from the military
