THIS MY FIRST COMMUNION DAY”
St. Albert the Great Church
Dearborn Heights, Michigan
March 23, 1969

ENTRANCE HYMN: On This Day, The First Of Days

On this day, the first of days,
God the Father’s name we praise.
Who creation’s Lord and Spring,
Did the world from darkness bring.

On this day the Eternal Son,
Over death his triumph won.
On this day the Spirit came,
With His gifts of Living Flame.

Father who didst fashion man,
Godlike in thy loving plan.
Fill us with that love divine,
And conform our wills to Thine.

Word made flesh, all hail to thee!
Thou from sin hast set us free.
And with these we die and rise,
Unto God in sacrifice.

Holy Spirit, you impart,
Gifts of love to every heart.
Give us Light and Grace we pray,
Fill our hearts this Holy day.

God the blessed Three in One,
May thy holy will be done.
In thy word our souls are free,
And we rest this day with thee.

(Strike Breast Three Times) Through my fault, through my fault, through my most grievous fault. Therefore I beseech Blessed Mary ever Virgin, Blessed Michael the Archangel, Blessed John the Baptist, and the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul, all the Saints, and you Father, to pray to the Lord our God for me.

PRIEST: May almighty God have mercy on you, forgive you your sins, and bring you to life everlasting.

PEOPLE: Amen.

PRIEST: O God, you will give us life again.

THE EPISTLE: (Read at this point)

INTROIT:

Rescue me from my enemies, O Lord, teach me to do your will. O Lord, my deliverer from the angry nations, truly above my adversaries you exalt me, and from the violent man you have rescued me. Much have they oppressed me from my youth, let Israel say: Much have they oppressed me from my youth, yet they have not prevailed against me. Upon my back the plower’s plowed. Long did they make their furrows. But the just Lord has severed the cords of the wicked.

THE GOSPEL: The Homily

RENEWAL OF BAPTISMAL PROMISES: (Stand)

PRIEST: Let us renew the promises of Holy Baptism, by which we once renounced Satan and his works, as well as that world which is the enemy of God, and promised to serve God faithfully in the Holy Catholic Church.

PRIEST: Do you renounce Satan?

ALL: We do renounce him.

PRIEST: And all his works?

ALL: We do renounce them.

PRIEST: And all his allurements?

ALL: We do renounce them

PRIEST: Do you believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of Heaven and Earth?

ALL: We do believe.

PRIEST: Do you believe in Jesus Christ, His only son, our Lord, who was born into this world and who suffered?

ALL: We do believe

PRIEST: Do you believe also in the Holy Spirit, the Holy Catholic Church, The Communion of Saints, the forgiveness of sins, the Resurrection of the body, and life everlasting?

ALL: We do believe.

PRIEST: Now let us pray to God together, as our Lord Jesus Christ has taught us to pray.

ALL: Our Father, Who art in Heaven, Hallowed be they Name; Thy kingdom come; Thy will be done on earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; and lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil. Amen.

PRIEST: And may Almighty God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has given us a new birth by means of water and the Holy Spirit and forgive all our sins, keep us by His Grace in the same Christ Jesus our Lord, so that we may have life everlasting.

ALL: Amen

CREED

PRIEST: I believe in one God.

ALL: The Father Almighty, maker of Heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible. And I believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only begotten Son of God. Born of the Father before all ages. God of God, Light of Light, true God of true God. Begotten, not made, of the one substance with the Father. by Whom all things were made. Who for us men and for our salvation came down from Heaven. And he became flesh by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary: And was made Man. He was also crucified for us, suffered under Pontius Pilate, and was buried. And on the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures. He ascended into heaven and sits at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead. And of his kingdom there will be no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of Life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, is adored and glorified and who spoke through the prophets.

And one holy, Catholic, and Apostolic Church.

I confess one baptism for the forgiveness of sins, and I await the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen

With all my Heart;

Be good to your servant, that I may live,

and keep your words.

O Lord, give me life according to your word.

RECESSIONAL HYMN:

Now thank we all our God,
With heart and hands and voices.
Who wondrous things hath done,
In whom his world rejoices.
Who from our Mother’s arms,
Hath blessed us on our way.
With countless gifts of love,
and still is ours today.

O may this bounteous God,
Through all our life be near us!
With ever joyful hearts,
And blessed peace to cheer us.
And keep us in his grace,
And guide us when perplexed.
And free us from all ills,
In this world and the next.

All praise and thanks to God,
The Father now be given.
The Son and Spirit Blessed,
Who reign in highest Heaven.
Eternal, Triune God,
Whom Earth and Heav’n adore.
For thus it was, is now,
And shall be ever more.
