1974 CHRONICLE – CYO BOYS/GIRLS BASEBALL

BOY’S C.Y.O. BASEBALL MAY 6TH, 1974
The Cardinals opened their season on Sunday, April 21st, with a 4-2 triumph over St. Mary Magdalen. Last Saturday St. Alfred Blanked the Cardinals 3-0. On Sunday, St. Albert defeated St. Sebastian 3-0. Yesterday the Cardinals played an away game vs. St. Cyril. The result will be published in next Sunday’s Chronicle.

Today St. Albert takes on St. Sebastian at St. Sebastian’s School field, located on the corner of Merrick and Dartmouth. Game time is 2:30. Come to the game and cheer the Cardinals on! A two hitter pitched by Mark Flynn and hits by Mike Osaer, Tony Marijanovich, and Gino Lollio led the St. Albert’s C.Y.O. team to a 4 to 2 victory to open the season over St. Mary Magdalen. Saturday, April 27th, the boys C.Y.O. team lost a heartbreaker against St. Alfred’s. On a one hitter, Bob Lamb struck out fifteen St. Sebastian batters with team support and with support from his battery mate, Brian Lagerstrom, to give St. Albert’s 3-0 win. See Baseball Schedule back of the church for further games.

GIRL’S C.Y.O. BASEBALL MAY 6TH, 1974
Saturday, April 27th, was the day and our Girl’s CYO Baseball hosted the Girl’s CYO team from St. Mary Magdalen in their first game of the season. The results were all in our favor as St. Albert’s won handily 17 -7

On Sunday, April 28th, we traveled to Champaign Park to face the girls from St. Cyril’s. The result was an exciting game that ended in defeat in extra innings, 8-7.

Yesterday we played the team from St. Timothy’s in Trenton. Results next week. Today, at 1:00 p.m., we play Christ the Good Shepherd here at St. Albert’s. Come along and cheer our girls on. These girls, under Coach Bob Mallia and staff, have really jelled since the 63 girls showed up for tryouts in March. The twenty remaining girls are truly representative of our parish.

This coming Friday, May 10th, we play St. Joseph’s at Vernon Park, Vernon and Camelot in Trenton at 4:15 p.m. Those of you that have the time, join us. Good luck Cardinals!
