1956 FIRST ORGANIZATION ESTABLISHED – THE USHERS CLUB

As previously mentioned, the Parish was in a phase of “firsts” in 1955 and in September/October of 1955 the Parish would add another first.

The first organization established in the Parish was the Ushers Club. Naturally, it began somewhat informally, as one member described it. It seems that one of his friends called out to him; “Hey, the Pastor of our new Parish needs some help. Come over to St. Sebastian’s Hall tomorrow night for a meeting. And, by the way, you are going to usher next Sunday.” The new Parish of St. Albert the Great was formed of territory which previously was part of St. Sebastian’s Parish.

The records of the Ushers Club list the following members for October, 1955:

The minutes of the meeting of what would become the Ushers Club was on Sept. 7th 1955 and it shows that 23 members were present, and the following were the officers: Dave White, Chairman; Russ Nicholson, Acting Secretary; Ed Wohlford, Acting Treasurer.

In February, 1956, Ted Czerwinski joined the Ushers Club, and in March of 1956, Clayton Archer Sr., Raymond Butler, Secundo Cusin, Frank Duncan, Henry Jaskowiak, Joe Melega, Richard Nowak, and John Raymond all became members.
